Distribution Center:

Distribution Center Manager

Distribution Center Manager

Responsible for overall Regional Distribution Center (RDC) operations and management of salaried, office hourly, warehouse hourly personnel in performance / productivity of office/warehouse clerical, shipping, receiving, order fulfillment, assembly (pre-pack), stocking, whole goods, housekeeping, building (office/warehouse) maintenance and equipment maintenance functions including directing and controlling all RDC activities to ensure the efficient economical utilization of facilities for storing and distributing both parts and whole goods inventories. Maintains and coordinates staff to achieve optimal efficiency and productivity standards in order to meet corporate management objectives, including maintaining staffing levels and implementing Lean-driven work methods. Establishes operational policies and procedures for RDC in accordance with SMA, Human Resources and OSHA safety regulations / guidelines. Position interfaces with Sales, Distribution, Shipping, Accounting, Merchandising, etc. to provide quality product service support to internal and external customers.

Resposible For:

The incumbent will carry out their position responsibilities in a professional, competent, proficient and orderly manner, and he/she will execute assignments with a sense of urgency. As an SMA Team Member, he/she will cooperate with their fellow employees, peers, and General Manager - Distribution, and he/she will enforce all corporate and RDC policies and procedures.

Manages / Supervises overall daily RDC functions in accordance with established operational policies and procedures along with instructions of the General Manager - Distribution.

Interviews job applicants and make final hiring decision for all RDC personnel, including salaried, office hourly, fulltime warehouse hourly and temporary warehouse hourly personnel.

Coordinates orientation, training and job placement of all new personnel.

Administers current labor contract (if applicable).

Develops, establishes and administrates company work rules, policies and procedures.

Organizes, distributes and directs the daily workflow throughout the RDC.

Provides RDC personnel with on-going supervision to ensure quality control standards, productivity standards, attendance standards, maintenance standards, housekeeping standards, budget guidelines are being achieved and/or complied with along with established procedures and policies. Including hours of operation, number of shifts, etc. necessary to provide quality dependable product service support and/or manage the business operation.

Administers disciplinary action, whenever necessary, to maintain uniform discipline along with keeping accurate attendance records and/or employee records.

Maintains accurate daily productivity records for all functional areas of the RDC, and provides these records to the General Manager - Distribution on a daily basis.

Works with both external and internal company personnel to provide customers (internal / external) with the highest level of quality dependable product service support.

Establishes and administers the RDC budget along with reviewing all incoming invoices prior to sending them to Accounting Department for payment.

Completes special projects, tasks and assignments assigned by the General Manager - Distribution within the allotted time frame.

Initiates, guides and communicates with appropriate personnel throughout the operation concerning operations inefficiencies and restrictions.

Informs General Manager - Distribution of all priority problem situations involving RDC operations and/or any problems that restrict the overall efficiency, productivity and/or meeting shipping deadlines of RDC operations.

Approves corrections of miss-shipments, corresponding inventory adjustments, receivers, sales credits, etc.

Supervises the requisition of all supplies and solicits quotations form vendors as required. In addition, he/she is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely supply inventory records in all areas of the RDC.

Monitors all operational practices and procedures for compliance with applicable safety rules and precautions in order to maintain a safe accident free environment within the RDC.

Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment within the RDC at all times. Insuring that floors are swept / vacuumed / mopped, trash containers are emptied, bins/racks are kept clean (no empty boxes, broken boards, used shrink-wrap, banding, etc.), and bins/racks are stocked properly in accordance with proper policies and practices.

Reviews work order reports, receiving reports, productivity reports, shipping reports, error reports, creation of new label formats and other programs as necessary to in sure that the warehouse is operating on schedule and policies and procedures are being followed correctly.

Conducts annual performance appraisals for direct reports and recommends salary actions in accordance with company policies, where applicable.

Supervises annual physical inventory program and/or daily cycle counting of inventory to insure that they are performed accurately and on schedule.

Assigns and designates RDC space for new items being added to inventory and/or building.

Sets an example as a role model to all personnel by maintaining a neat, clean and professional appearance and a dedication to all assignments including supporting General Manager - Distribution and corporate policies, procedures and directives.

The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in any business area. A graduate degree, MBA, is extremely beneficial.

One to five to seven years experience in management of a parts distribution center facility preferable; previous experience with company information systems, procedures and inventory of four or more years is highly desirable.
